This assessment verifies that your overseas nursing qualification meets Australian standards. It is the gateway to your entire registration journey — get it wrong and you lose weeks and $595.

What Is ANMAC?

ANMAC is the independent body that assesses whether internationally qualified nurses have the education and experience equivalent to an Australian-educated registered nurse. They do not test your clinical skills in person — it is entirely a document-based assessment.

ANMAC assesses your:

Who Needs It?

Any internationally qualified registered nurse (IQRN) seeking:

• AHPRA registration to practise in Australia
• Skills assessment for a skilled migration visa (subclass 189, 190, 491, 482, 494)

This includes nurses from the Philippines, India, Nepal, Kenya, Nigeria, UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, and all other countries.

Eligibility Requirements

If you hold a Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent):

• Your qualification must have led to registration as a nurse in your home country
• You must be currently registered OR have been previously registered

If your qualification is below bachelor level (e.g., diploma):

• Your qualification must have been completed after 1 January 2017
• You must have at least 1,800 hours of paid nursing work since qualifying
• You must have at least 3 months of work experience in the last 5 years

Required Documents Checklist

Prepare these before starting your application:

1. Identity Documents

• Passport biodata pages (clear colour scan)
• One passport-sized photograph (recent, professional)
• Two additional forms of ID (birth certificate, driver's licence, national ID card)
• Change of name documents if your name has changed (marriage certificate, deed poll)

2. Nursing Qualification Documents

• Graduation certificate or testamur
• Full academic transcripts showing all subjects, grades, and hours
• Course syllabus or curriculum document showing:
  • Total theory hours (minimum 800 hours expected)

5. English Language Test Results

• IELTS Academic, OET, PTE Academic, or Cambridge results
• Scores must meet current AHPRA requirements
• Results must be less than 2 years old at time of application
• Or evidence of English exemption (5 years education in a recognised English-speaking country)

Document Format Requirements

ANMAC is strict about document quality:

• Colour scans at 600 dpi or higher (not black and white)
• PDF format only
• All pages of multi-page documents must be included
• Scans must be complete and legible — no cropped edges
• Certified copies where specified (Justice of the Peace, notary public, or authorised certifier)

Common mistakes that cause rejection:

• Photos of documents taken with a phone camera (use a scanner)
• Black and white scans
• Missing pages from transcripts
• Expired Certificate of Good Standing (must be less than 6 months old)

Possible Outcomes

Tips for a Successful Application

1. Start Document Gathering Early

The biggest delay is getting documents from overseas institutions and regulatory bodies. A Certificate of Good Standing from the Philippines Nursing Board (PRC) can take 4-8 weeks. Start requesting documents immediately.

2. Get Your Curriculum Document

This is the most commonly missing document. Your transcript shows subjects and grades. Your curriculum document shows the detailed content, theory hours, and clinical hours for each subject. Contact your university's registrar office to request this.

3. Use Certified NAATI Translators

Documents not in English must be translated by a NAATI-certified translator. Do not use informal translations — they will be rejected. NAATI translation costs approximately $50-150 per page.

4. Check Certificate of Good Standing Timing

Your Certificate of Good Standing must be dated within 6 months of your ANMAC application. If you request it too early, it may expire before ANMAC processes your application. Time this carefully.

5. Scan Everything Properly

Use a flatbed scanner, not your phone camera. Scan in colour at 600 dpi minimum. Save as PDF. Include every page of multi-page documents, including blank pages that are part of the official document.

6. Keep Copies of Everything

Save copies of every document you submit. If ANMAC requests additional information, you will need to reference what you already provided.

Philippines (PRC)

• Request your Certificate of Good Standing from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) early — processing takes 4-8 weeks
• Your BSN transcript must include clinical hours breakdown
• PRC Board Rating/Passing certificate is helpful but not always required

India (INC/State Nursing Council)

• Request verification from your State Nursing Council, not just your university
• BSc Nursing and GNM qualifications are both assessed
• Include your internship completion certificate

Nepal (Nepal Nursing Council)

• Request verification from the Nepal Nursing Council
• Include proficiency certificate if applicable
• PCL Nursing and BSc Nursing have different assessment pathways

UK (NMC)
